Arts & Enrichment
Spanish is taught daily in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, and three times each week to Jr. Kindergarten students enrolled in the extended day program.
All Middle School students take Spanish daily. Study of a foreign language reinforces their study and comprehension of English grammar, usage, and vocabulary, and their study of world history and other cultures. Classes are taught almost entirely in Spanish by native speakers, who use a lively, hands-on approach. Old Orchard students begin studying Spanish daily in Kindergarten. New Middle School students who have not previously had the opportunity to study Spanish will begin at an introductory level.
All Old Orchard grades prepare and perform a play or musical during the year, with an afternoon performance for the school and an evening performance for family and friends.
All Lower School classes take art. The program progresses from structured projects designed to encourage younger students to dive in and explore form, color and different media, to instruction in more formal drawing and painting techniques.
Middle School students take at least one elective during each trimester. During the course of the year, these must include drama or debate, visual and computer arts.
