Physical Education
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
In games, relays and structured play students work on coordination, motor skills, listening and following rules. Concepts of team-work and fair play are stressed.
Grades 1-3
Physical skills are further developed with introduction to modified, but increasingly demanding team-oriented games, relays and activities. Overall fitness is stressed. Leadership roles within teams are introduced, concepts of team-work and fair play are taught in greater depth, conflict resolution is introduced.
Grades 4 & 5
Students continue to learn team sports, with increasing emphasis on the important of practice, teamwork and leadership skills. In addition to overall fitness, students are taught how to maintain strength and flexibility, the importance of diet, maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Students learn to run the mile. Concepts of team-work, fair play, respect for the abilities of all players are emphasized; increasingly sophisticated conflict resolution skills are introduced.
Grades 6 - 8
Students are taught increasingly sophisticated sports techniques and drills, with increasing emphasis on fitness, flexibility and strength. Students train to run up to two miles. Concepts of team-work, fair play, respect, leadership and conflict-resolution are taught at advanced levels.
