To understand a school’s programs, values and culture, you need to spend time on campus. We encourage all families to attend an Open House and to schedule a school-day tour to see our classrooms, teachers and students in action. Our upcoming Open House dates are November 12 and January 21, from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. You may reserve a school-day tour online or contact our Admission office directly via phone, at (408) 378-5935, or via email, at email@example.com.
To be considered in the first round of decisions for the 2017-18 school year, applications must be received by Feb 3rd. All applications must be filed online. Required supporting material varies slightly by grade (details are outlined in the admission portal). Candidates who apply after the deadline will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Qualified candidates will be offered admission or a place on the waitlist if no seats are available. Please understand that we cannot evaluate any candidates until we have a complete application, including the application form, application fee, and all supporting materials.
Please note: Jr. Kindergarten candidates should be 4-years-old by September 1; Kindergarten candidates should be 5-years-old by September 1.
Applicants for Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First Grade are encouraged to apply early as space is limited.
Evaluate & Assess
Evaluation and assessment of applicants vary by grade. The majority of candidates are asked to “shadow” at Old Orchard, which means they spend a minimum of two consecutive school days with the class they wish to join.
Here are the highlights:
Jr. Kindergarten (K1): Applicants are evaluated individually and assessed for social and school readiness by the Junior Kindergarten teacher.
Kindergarten (K2): Applicants are evaluated in small groups and assessed for social and school readiness with a series of exercises that measure a variety of developmental skills. To the students, it simply feels like an afternoon at school, complete with a story and time on the playground. The first evaluation session for applicants is scheduled for March 2. Candidates who apply after the Feb 3 deadline will be evaluated individually.
Grades 1-8: Candidates "shadow" at Old Orchard for two days with the grade they wish to join. During their visit, they attend classes and will be given a separate math and writing assessment. Shadow Days are scheduled in January through early March. If your student wishes to join Old Orchard during the current school year, the evaluation or shadow date will be scheduled as early as possible after a completed application has been submitted.
NOTE: Completed application packages (online application form, required documentation and $100 application fee) must be submitted before an evaluation or shadow day will be scheduled.
Admission decisions will be sent on March 15.
