Middle School Lead Math Teacher (Grades 6–8) | 2026–2027 School Year
Old Orchard School seeks a warm, collaborative, and innovative Middle School Lead Math Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. Old Orchard offers a supportive teaching environment within a close-knit community known for academic excellence, student-centered instruction, and strong faculty and staff retention.
Position Summary
The Middle School Lead Math Teacher teaches students in Grades 6–8, supporting learners from foundational skills through Algebra 1 and Geometry-level coursework. Students develop creative and rigorous problem-solving habits in both theoretical and real-world contexts; learn to communicate and critique mathematical reasoning; and collect, analyze, and interpret data. Equally important, we want every student to see themselves as a capable and confident mathematician. A growth mindset is a key tenet across all subjects at Old Orchard School.
Compensation
Salary range: $75,000–$90,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan and teach up to five math classes daily for Grades 6–8, including occasional independent-study units for advanced or remedial students
- Provide leadership across all aspects of the OOS Middle School math program including colleagues providing math instruction
- Partner with Lower School leadership to assess, strengthen, and ensure continuity of the schoolwide math program
- Build and sustain a positive, inclusive classroom culture rooted in curiosity, effort, and perseverance
- In collaboration with school leadership, design and document an effective math curriculum with clear outcomes, skill progressions, enduring understandings, and essential questions
- Lead the annual math placement assessment process and communicate results to students and families
- Proactively communicate with students and families regarding individualized plans to address skill gaps and promote growth
- Assess student learning and provide timely feedback; submit grades and narrative comments according to school expectations and deadlines
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information systems, including class calendars, gradebooks, and online course sites
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of Middle School students throughout the school year
- Collaborate closely with colleagues on grade-level, Middle School, and schoolwide initiatives
- Participate in and contribute to the broader Middle School and school community (events, meetings, committees, etc.)
Core Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and/or teaching credential preferred
- At least five years of math teaching experience, ideally at the middle school or early high school level
- Deep content knowledge across the range taught (Grades 6–8 through Algebra 1/Geometry-level topics), including the ability to identify and address gaps in prior learning
- Demonstrated experience differentiating instruction for a wide range of learners and math identities
- Strong understanding of effective pedagogy, including thoughtful use of educational technology tools and platforms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style
- Evidence of ongoing professional learning and reflective practice
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in leading or supporting math-related extracurriculars (e.g., math club, competitions, enrichment)
- Experience running an engaging and well-attended non-math after-school or enrichment program

Jr Kindergarten Teacher
Jr Kindergarten Teacher
Old Orchard School, a private independent school in Campbell, California, seeks an experienced Jr. Kindergarten / Transitional Kindergarten Teacher for its academic early childhood program. This is a rare opportunity to work in a warm, collegial, and academically strong independent school community.
We are looking for an educator who is well versed in current best practices in early childhood education and who values both the developmental needs of young children and the importance of building a strong academic foundation. The ideal candidate will bring relevant teaching experience, sound professional judgment, and a collaborative spirit. While Old Orchard School is not a Montessori school, applicants with some Montessori experience are encouraged to apply.
About the Jr. Kindergarten Program
Old Orchard will be adding a second Jr. Kindergarten class for the first time in its 52 year history. The program serves students who are four years old at the start of the school year and the program is designed to help children grow into confident, capable learners and active members of their classroom and school community.
Our Jr. Kindergarten program is academic in nature, while remaining developmentally appropriate for young learners. Particular emphasis is placed on developing the academic readiness, social-emotional skills, and classroom habits students will need to succeed in our advanced Kindergarten program.
Throughout the year, students build foundational skills in language arts, mathematics, science, and social-emotional learning. They also strengthen their listening and speaking skills, learn to follow directions, ask relevant questions, and work cooperatively with both peers and teachers. In addition, students receive specialized instruction in Spanish, music, and physical education.
Position Summary
The Jr. Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for the day-to-day life of the classroom, including planning and implementing meaningful hands-on lessons, fostering a warm and structured learning environment, communicating effectively with parents and colleagues, and supporting the broader life of the school.
This teacher will work in partnership with the existing Jr. Kindergarten teacher and will contribute positively to a collaborative and student-centered faculty culture.
Compensation
Salary range: $70,000–$80,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Primary Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a warm, welcoming, and well-managed classroom environment for students and families
- Plan and teach developmentally appropriate, academically rich lessons aligned with best practices in early childhood education
- Support students’ growth in both social-emotional development and foundational academic skills
- Use creative, hands-on instructional methods that promote inquiry, discovery, and active engagement
- Encourage and guide positive social interaction, cooperation, and problem-solving among students
- Help students develop self-regulation, prosocial behavior, and age-appropriate independence
- Maintain a classroom that is safe, organized, clean, and engaging
- Communicate with parents in a timely, professional, and thoughtful manner
- Prepare report cards and other communications regarding progress and development
- Collaborate closely with colleagues, grade-level partners, and supervisors, including participation in meetings and school events
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, field trips, and other non-classroom settings as needed
- Work with students in a manner that is nurturing, respectful, and responsive to individual needs
- Support the wider life of the school and participate fully in the school community
Preferred Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree or higher, with coursework or training in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or a related field
- Relevant teaching credential preferred
- Significant experience teaching Jr. Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or an older preschool classroom with a strong academic and social-emotional program
- Some Montessori training or classroom experience preferred, though Old Orchard School is not a Montessori school
- Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate instructional practice
