Community Updates

The Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 has been a difficult time for everyone. At Old Orchard, teachers and staff have focused on supporting our students not only academically but also emotionally. With so much uncertainty surrounding us all, our goal is to provide as much structure consistency as possible for or students and families. For this reason, we developed a Distance Learning Program that provides live, synchronous instruction across all academic and enrichment subjects every day. From math to science to language arts and Spanish to art and P.E.— Old Orchard students do it all!  The continued daily interaction with teachers and classmates brings a great sense of connection and structure to our days and keeps the spirit and warmth of Old Orchard alive even though we are all apart.

We  continue to be, truly amazed by our community. Teachers and staff have been open-minded, flexible, and beyond generous with their time and talents, each stepping well outside their usual roles to support their colleagues. Parents and students have been resilient, supportive and open to exploring this new approach to learning. We are so very proud of all that we accomplished last spring. Looking ahead to the 2020-21 school year we know that together, we can do this and so much more!

Here's what our parents are saying:

Thank you so much for the way you have adapted the class. I am relieved that the electives were able to continue as I have seen my nieces' school strip the online curriculum down and cut things out. For [our son], he really enjoys the arts aspect of school, and I am so glad he still gets that part of his day. He has mentioned how much fun he is having in the drama portion of his online day.

I would like to take the opportunity to let you know how much we appreciated OOS staff for their hard work in making distance learning work for the students.  I would not be able to homeschool them for so long while trying to get my work done as well.  Kudos to all the staff.

Special thanks to Mr. Russell, Ms. Susan, and Mr. Michael. It would be hard to work on arts/PE in a class setting and you guys are doing a wonderful job making it exciting for the kids to work on it at home.

I'd like to thank you for doing such a great job everyday with our K1 kids.  I did have doubts about distance learning for kids at such a young age, but after three weeks, I am happy to see [our son] enjoys learning everyday.  Especially I think being able to see [his teacher] and his classmates helps him feel still connected with the outside world.

Old Orchard School rocked it! Cannot express enough respect and gratitude for the administration, teachers and staff at Old Orchard School in Campbell. I am in awe. Not only did they create a supportive and effective end of the school year curriculum, they topped it off with a meaningful, loving and memorable 8th grade graduation. You rose to the occasion and the challenge and knocked it out of the park!
