Second Grade

Second grade is a year of making connections as students hone their skills in all academic areas and strengthen their social-emotional development by learning to solve problems in and out of the classroom. As students become more independent readers, they explore a variety of reading genres, and develop their voice through oral presentations and written word. They learn to clearly express thoughts in writing by summarizing stories, recording observations and findings, creating narratives, and detailing discoveries in research projects.  Students deepen their math fluency and develop problem solving skills by using various strategies in math. Students gain confidence by strengthening social-emotional skills while developing a repertoire of tools to help navigate through challenges. As students begin to think more abstractly, they investigate and interpret the world around them. Second grade is a year of self-awareness, community awareness, and growth in all areas!
