Arts & Enrichment
Drama, Music, Art, and Technology
Old Orchard has a lot going on when it comes to arts and enrichment programs, which embrace everything from painting and P.E. to Robotics and Performing Arts.
Every grade puts on its own performance each year and every student is allowed to participate. In Grades 6-8 students may choose other electives, but every student who wishes to take drama and appear in a school play may do so. Middle School students with a strong interest in the technical side of the performing arts - set design, sound and lighting - may request permission from our drama teachers to apprentice with them on their class production. Visual Arts are offered as stand-alone classes in every grade and they are woven into projects in students' academic classes. Just walk through our Lower School classrooms and you'll see what we mean! Art is around every door and on every wall.
Technology crosses from the academic to the creative at Old Orchard at every grade level. All students, K-8, are taught how to properly use and care for computers and other technology, how to use technological tools to enhance and advance their studies and how these same tools may also be used for creative expression, just as they use paints and pencils and clay. All students entering 6th grade are asked to purchase individual iPads which they will leverage throughout the day in every subject from Language Arts to History to Robotics and Web Site Design.
