Asset Building Champions (ABC)
ABC volunteers read specially selected children's books and lead classroom activities and discussions focusing on important issues like respect, tolerance, peaceful conflict resolution, honesty, caring and friendship.
ABC readers are our trained parent volunteers. Each month at the Lower School they will read a specially selected story that touches on topics like student respect, dealing with peers, and building social skills. Every class will read the same book and the volunteers will use a detailed lesson plan that provides discussion questions and activities to help students' in the areas of social skills and personal values. The reading program and lessons are gauged to different age groups and meet California standards. Teachers and staff will continue the conversation with students formally and informally, and we hope the parents will do the same at home.
